A New House on the Central Coast |
The opportunity to design a new house for close family friends presents a serious challenge – the sheer responsibility and trust of pursuing the best achievable outcome, building upon the shared experiences and interests of a lifetime. The new house, a permanent home after years of travel born from work-based wanderings, would also replace a much loved, simple holiday cottage, a capsule of inter-generational memories, the last of its kind in its lakeside locality. However, the old cottage would be making way for a spacious new gathering place, a home for new family memories.
A compact, two-level, gable roofed and timber-framed house, clad in simple materials alluding to the spirit of its predecessor, delivers a house that must function manageably for two, but offer room for family and visitors with ease, comfort and flexibility – and uplift and delight for everyone, simultaneously. The new three bedroom house incorporates a domestic elevator and extensive storage and display space for a lifetime’s collections.
