Robert (Bob) Moore established Robert A Moore Architects and Conservation Consultants in 1985 after working for the National Trust of Queensland, the NSW Heritage Council, and small private practices working with historic buildings, The practice provides advice and undertakes conservation and adaptive use works for Commonwealth and State Government Departments, as well as Local Governments and private owners across New South Wales.
Bob continues to work as a Heritage Advisor to Local Government throughout NSW and works extensively as an expert witness on heritage issues in the NSW Land & Environment Court for State and Local Government.
A particular interest of Bob and target work for the practice has been conservation and adaptive use advice for private owners - most of them houses or buildings which have been heritage-listed by State or Local Government. Planning and building works that enhance the amenity, utility and enjoyment of these buildings have been constant projects for the practice, many winning heritage awards and a long-term client base. Assessments of Heritage Significance and of Heritage Impact have been central to this work, as is mentoring younger colleagues in heritage practice.
Prior to joining Robert Moore Heritage and Architecture, Sheridan Burke was a partner and director at GML Heritage; Senior Curator and Manager of Property Operations at the Historic Houses Trust of NSW (Sydney Living Museums); Senior Policy Specialist at the Heritage Council of NSW and Urban Planner with the Department of Environment and Planning.
Sheridan is a recognised specialist in managing Twentieth Century heritage places- providing strategic heritage advice for adaptive reuse projects. Her practical site management planning expertise and a wealth of knowledge contributes to the firm’s strategic advice and impact assessment.
With the combined heritage skills, experience and expertise of Robert Moore as an architect and Sheridan Burke as a planner, Robert Moore Heritage and Architecture uses a collaborative approach to provide a strategic advantage to sustaining the liveliness of heritage places. With ongoing involvement in public and professional organisations internationally, the practice is contemporary in outlook and draws on a conservation ethos informed by over 35 years of professional and pragmatic experience.
Our practice has always employed young architects and heritage professionals, who have in turn pursued careers of their own and it’s a privilege to see them flourish and aspire to excellent work. We are now a smaller office and use the extensive professional networks we’ve engaged with over the last several decades to expand our work teams for specific projects. We enjoy collaborating with historians, horticulturalists, landscape architects, engineers, graphic designers and specialist architects on a project-by-project basis, adding the excitement of their knowledge and expertise as appropriate to each project, without the burden of office administration.
